Tongaat Hulett Starch is Africa’s largest producer of starch, glucose and other related products. They supply
clients across Africa and around the world with products refined at their 5 South African facilities.
Business challenge:
Understanding that in order to increase their lead as Africa’s only Wetmiller, they need to achieve superior
and sustainable business performance. As such the need was identified to establish, institutionalise and
nurture a coaching culture at different structures of the business in order to drive key strategic thrusts that
will see the achievement of organisational, team and personal goals.
Nature of the engagement:
Grow Consulting was engaged to assist with the design and facilitation of a customised Executive Coaching Development Programme in support of a culture change and capacity building. This pilot program started
with an organisational readiness assessment and leadership alignment process. This was followed by an
integrated development intervention spanning 6 months for the identified coaches consisting of various
content modules, supported by full psychometric and 360-degree profiling of each coach, external executive
coaching support and facilitated peer group learning sessions. Further ensuring sustainability in the process, coachees were taken through their own development module prior to being paired and introduced to the
coaches by means of a structured orientation and role contracting session.
